With only two episodes to go (Wednesday and Thursday on Slice), here's a look at the four remaining houseguests:
Heather Decksheimer, 23
Edmonton
When I interviewed Heather prior to the start of the game, she said that her little-girl voice and bubbly demeanour can be both her biggest weakness (she can drive people crazy) and her biggest asset (people tend to underestimate her). It broke my heart when she would walk into a room and others literally would get up and leave. But it turns out Heather is pretty gutsy, she's tougher mentally than her rivals assume, and lately she has proven to be a physical threat in competitions. I'm wondering about jury votes, though. If Heather makes it to final two, she may be seen as someone who has survived through circumstance.
Odds: 4-1
Sabrina Abbate, 25
Laval, Que.
In the early days Sabrina fancied herself as a master strategist – as she repeatedly boasted in the diary room – but things changed in the week when the eviction nominees were determined by a Canada-wide vote. Having been “called out” by Canada as unlikable, Sabrina subsequently flew a bit more under the radar. Devoid of allies, Sabrina still is here because no one feared her in competitions, and it was assumed she could be discarded at any time. But that strategy hit a brick wall when Sabrina won the head-of-household competition last Sunday, guaranteeing her a spot in the final three.
Odds: 3-1
Jon Pardy, 23
Clarenville, N.L.
Big Jon either is a savvy player or Neda's naive shadow. Maybe both can be true. When Sabrina won the head-of-household competition last Sunday, a furious Jon was doing his best not to scream at Neda and Heather, “I told you so!” The previous week, Neda and Jon had clashed over strategy, with Jon wanting to send Sabrina home. But Neda is playing strictly for herself. Jon's hopes may hinge on whether he has the guts to stab Neda before she stabs him. If nice-guy Jon makes it to final two, he likely wins, especially with the public having one of the seven votes. But the three surviving girls are well aware of that, too.
Odds: 2-1
Neda Kalantar, 22
Vancouver
I'm kind of scared of Neda. Yes, she has exhibited some warmth in her alliance with Jon, but she is as cold and calculating as they come. Neda is single-minded as to why she's there, she openly has admitted she's greedy, and she's a stone-faced fibber, even to Jon. If puppet-master Neda makes it to final two, will the evicted house-guests in the jury be bitter about Neda's game, or will they respect it? Neda isn't as popular as Jon, but strictly from a game-play point of view, she probably deserves to win. Will that matter? As Clint Eastwood said to Gene Hackman in the movie Unforgiven, “Deserve's got nothin' to do with it.”
