On Thursday the Clarenville, Newfoundland resident was named the winner of season two of Big Brother Canada.

After winning the final veto competition of the season, Pardy chose to take Sabrina Abbate with him to the final two over Neda Kalantar, his closest friend and ally in the house.

That move secured him the votes of the jury of evicted houseguests, catapulting him to the win.

After the taping of the finale, Pardy stood in the backyard of the Big Brother house in Toronto and explained that if he had chosen Kalantar over Abbate, the jury would have selected her as the winner.

“If I had brought Neda to final two, I would have lost the game,” he said. “She played a spectacular game from day one and she didn’t stop until the day she left. If I was going to stand there in the final two, whether I took her or she took me, there was no chance I was going to beat her.”

Throughout the season Pardy worked closely with Kalantar, confiding in her and strategizing on what to do at every turn. When Kalantar cast her vote – for Pardy to win – she turned to the camera and said, “I’m voting for the person who played MY game.”

After the finale taping, Kalantar admitted it was the right thing for Pardy to do, but said it still made for a bitter moment.

“I shouldn’t have been as bitter to him, but he played my game – let’s be honest,” she said. “I’m really happy for him. If anyone other than me was going to get the money, I’m happy it was him, but I couldn’t let it slide without saying something.”

Arisa Cox, host of the show and veteran cast member of another Canadian reality series, U8TV’s The Lofters, said Pardy played an incredible game, winning many competitions and making a huge move at the eleventh hour.

“When it came time to make the biggest move of the game, he did it without hesitation,” she said. “That’s a player. He deserves to win this whole thing. “

Once he’s back in Newfoundland, Pardy said he plans to start spending his winnings by outfitting his grandparents’ home with a new kitchen. After that, the 23-year-old student said he’ll use the money to start a new life.

“I’m going to see what my family needs then start my life,” he said. “I never had a lot of money growing up, so the fact that I have a few dollars now is amazing.”
