You can certainly chalk this up as one of the most predictable announcements of recent memory: “Big Brother Canada” is going to be coming back for another year on Global. The news was announced days ago by the show's host Arisa Cox, who posted a photo of herself sporting the Power of Veto necklace on Twitter.
Is she taking the show off of the cancellation block? Well, we don’t really think it was ever in jeopardy in the first place. The ratings for this show are consistent, but we think it would be a mistake to really measure the success of it just on that alone. So much of the real money here comes from the product placements, the advertisements on the website, and then also some of the larger overall sponsorships that pervade their way across the media.
Ultimately, what we’re talking about here is that while it may be cynical and easy at times to skewer folks like The Brick and Oxi Clean for being so prevalent, you gotta be thankful that they are around! New episodes of the show will probably air at some point next year! We hope that they don’t change things up at least when it comes to when the show airs, largely because there’s really nothing wrong with where it is in the schedule. There are some game elements that do need tweaking from time to time, especially the twists that enable people like Mitch to get booted from the game.
