The brand new batch of houseguests had barely unpacked and settled into their new home in the BBCAN Grand, when 19-year-old vet tech assistant Paige Distranski became the first guest eliminated from Big Brother Canada’s fourth season. The series returned this week with immediate twists, turns and major moves.
Thunder Bay’s fearless female was the youngest player in the house and was promptly placed on the block by the newly crowned Head of Household, Loveita Adams, although the HoH had bigger fish to fry. Paige was the pawn and up against 25-year-old Calgary flight attendant Kelsey Faith, who was the real target of the week. But when Kelsey’s flirting power earned her the boys’ support, she flipped the house and Paige was promptly evicted from the BBCAN Grand by a vote of 7-4.
“It was the best experience ever,” Distranski told Postmedia Network in good spirits, following her surprising eviction. “It was a dream come true. I was supposed to be a pawn but I went home. I was shocked, but it was still a good experience and I’m happy about it.”
On night one, 15 large personalities from all over Canada moved into their new digs and the party started immediately. “The first night, everyone was super happy. Everyone was getting along like, ‘We’re never going to have conflict. We all go together so well,” Paige said, although she admits she was a little out of her comfort zone.
“It was crazy. I’ve never been around so many big personalities all at once so it was actually so overwhelming. I wasn’t expecting that. But it was fun – they were all really cool people. It was just different.”
Once Loveita snagged the inaugural HoH competition, she chose to make a huge move by targeting Kelsey, who had paired off with Edmonton pipeline worker, Jared Kesler, as the two seemed to be early candidates for the season’s powerful showmance. But the 25-year-old Fort McMurray CEO in power had underestimated Kelsey’s charm and Loveita’s plan soon backfired when it was Paige who walked out the door on eviction night instead.
“I believed that I was just a pawn and I genuinely feel like I was just a pawn,” Paige continued. “The first two days I was on the block, I felt confident I had the votes. Everyone was seeing Kelsey and Jared as a power duo and they wanted her out. And then Jared just really started campaigning hard for Kelsey and they just flipped the votes. I was getting worried. I had a feeling that something had shifted and I might be going home.”
While Kelsey had a whole team in her corner, Paige’s social game just wasn’t as strong and the bonds she made during the first few nights weren’t enough to keep her safe. “I didn’t have anyone that was campaigning hard besides myself. Kelsey had Jared, the brothers and a lot of people campaigning hard for her while I was just depending on myself. I couldn’t connect with some people and I couldn’t fake it. Kelsey could fake it.”
Big Brother Canada 4 airs Sundays, Wednesdays and Thursdays on Global.
