Risha Denner wasn’t surprised when she wound up as the first houseguest evicted from Big Brother Canada’s third season. It was however, the immediate game-changing BBCan twists that threw the 41-year-old Torontonian off, when Canada was held responsible for her elimination this week, following a nationwide vote. “I knew going into the eviction that I was going to be evicted. But then, when it got switched up and Canada was voting, that kind of sucked,” Denner told QMI Agency during a phone interview from sequester, post-elimination.
Almost immediately after entering the house, host Arisa Cox made jaws drop once she unexpectedly announced that all 16 houseguests would be the week’s Heads of Household, while coercing each player to instantly nominate two of their peers for eviction – based off their first impressions.
Risha was one of the last to enter the house, putting her at a slight disadvantage. But she also knew her confident demeanor cast her as a threat right away. “People would never just come out and say that this 6’1, tall, blonde, older confident woman walked in and immediately started talking to all the strong guys in the house and is obviously going to be a physical threat in the challenges. I know when I was 21, if I would have watched me walking into the house, I would have felt intimidated and threatened,” she said.
Despite being the first on the block, Risha’s game-plan wasn’t so threatening. The long-time Big Brother fan had initially planned to lay low and build a family dynamic among the group before the season’s twists threw a wrench in her approach. “I was going to cook breakfast the first morning. That was my strategy. I really wanted to create this big sister feeling towards me. But the situation going in and immediately being nominated to fighting in the POV and going into the competition with no food and no sleep, I had to step it up and I had to be strong.”
While Big Brother Canada made the decision to hide all the food, furniture and personal belongings from the houseguests, Risha also had to deal with juggling the stress of being on the block while maintaining a slop diet. She got a chance to unwind however, by taking her top off and relaxing in the Big Brother hot-tub. When asked if the topless Risha was a more accurate representation of her everyday personality compared to her stressed-out guise, she answered: “Absolutely!”
“I’m a carefree person. I don’t have a lot of stress in my life.”
Risha is currently in BBCan sequester awaiting a potential opportunity to re-enter the game, as one of the first five eliminated houseguests will be given the chance to walk back into the house.
