Big Brother Canada rocketed to the scene with some of the most colorful characters the reality show had seen yet. Of them, Liza Stinton gave all in the Canadian house a run for their money. Now, her fundraising efforts toward Temecula’s Reality Rally 2014, and Michelle’s Place Breast Cancer Resource Center have already raised over four-thousand-dollars.
“Liza has been totally amazing and I so appreciate what she is doing for Michelle’s Place.” Gillian Larson of Reality Rally said.
Stinton has raised $4985 in just over a week, and according to Larson, ”She has set a new Reality Rally record.”
Stinton took time to talk about her fund raising efforts:
Liza: I met the infamous Gillian Larson over e-mail, after Big Brother Canada, when I was approached about Reality Rally. I really look forward to meeting Gillian in April, when I come to Temecula for my first Reality Rally.
I have enjoyed reality TV since before it was an official genre. I’ve been a fan of everything from Survivor to The Bachelor and American Idol to America’s Next Top Model, but Big Brother has always been my favorite. I remember as far back as 2001, watching the devious Dr. Will in Season 2 of Big Brother US manipulate and charm his way through the season, and thinking, ‘I can do that!’
When you came to Big Brother Canada, what was the most important thing for you to get out of the experience?
Liza: I really just wanted to have fun. Being selected out of 10-thousand hopefuls to be a part of the cast for the inaugural season of Big Brother Canada was in itself so rewarding. I knew my personality was too strong and polarizing to win the game, but testing myself in that environment was a unique experiment.
What are you looking most forward to – aside from getting out of Toronto winter weather?!
Liza: Ha! I hear the Toronto Ice Storm made global news! That and our ‘colorful’ mayor *face palm.* I’ve never been to Temecula, but I’m most excited to be a part of something so generous and positive. For the reality community to come together on such a grand scale for such a great cause is something truly extraordinary, and I’m honored to be a part of this event.
LIZA: I’d like to write something autobiographical and inspirational. In addition to being on Big Brother Canada, I’ve had countless extraordinary experiences in my life: from dating a plethora of famous musicians to owning my own business at 28-years-old. I’m constantly affirmed that my life is limitless, and I’d love to encourage and educate others on how to harness their own raw potential and squeeze the pure joy out of life.
You have taken Reality Rally to heart — the spirit, and the fundraising efforts- -along with your heart for speaking out for cancer victims and their families. What do you attribute your fundraising success?
LIZA: It’s hard work. You’ve got to do much more than just post the link to your Twitter page. In my first 10 days of fundraising, I dedicated endless hours to personally and individually reaching out to over 300 of my family, friends, colleagues and acquaintances, unabashedly asking them to support me in my efforts to break Reality Rally fundraising records so we could raise unprecedented amounts of money for Michelle’s Place.
I’ve always been charitable; helping others is something I profoundly value. Big Brother Canada gave me the platform and Reality Rally has given me the specific charitable cause to focus on. For that I’m truly thankful.
Who are you most looking forward to meeting at Reality Rally in Temecula?
LIZA: I’m looking forward to a mini Big Brother Canada reunion, since it looks like 10 out of 15 of our cast will be attending Reality Rally! I’m also excited to visit with my many new friends from Big Brother US. I might have a fan-girl moment if I see Richard Hatch or Tina Wesson from Survivor; they are Reality Royalty. Oh ya! And I’m excited to meetKendra Guffey from Pirate Master because I was a finalist for that show back in 2007, so I’d love to know what the experience was like for her.
What would you like Temecula to know about you, that makes you stand out as a contestant to support?
LIZA. I’ve lost far too many loved ones to cancer. Unfortunately, that doesn’t make me unique. It is likely that this terrible disease has affected every single one of us.
I encourage everyone to please donate whatever he or she can to whomever they support. That being said, if you’d like to contribute to breaking fundraising records and setting generous standards, then I’m your girl!
