Big Brother Canada’s Jillian MacLaughlin is on the phone, pulled over on the side of the road in a rainstorm to chat about what she’s been up to since winning the game in May.
Oh, turns out she’s just leaving Emmett Blois’ farm in Gore and on her way home to New Glasgow.
I know! Right?!
Yep, the two are still hanging out, having fun, and according to MacLaughlin, still an item.
Blois has even been showing her a few tricks of the farm trade, like driving a tractor and spreading manure.
“We’ve barely left each other’s side,” she said with a chuckle.
“This is my first time away from him since we’ve been home together.”
MacLaughlin and Blois were the season 1 showmance of the Canadian version of the game show that kicked off in February, with their strong alliance with fellow Atlantic Canadian Andrew Monaghan of Halifax taking the trio close to the final.
Since then, the three have been out and about to sign autographs and take part in community events like parades, as they recently did in Mount Uniacke and Kennetcook.
“A lot of people are excited to see us, which you never expect,” she said.
“The second night I was home, Emmett and I went to my hometown and there were so many people there. We signed autographs for two hours.”
As the winner, MacLaughlin, who hopes to become a teacher, has had some extra duties since then.
Dubbed a special correspondent for ET Canada, she’s been out to Los Angeles twice in the last couple of weeks to help promote Big Brother 15, kicking off this Wednesday on Global and CBS.
She interviewed the current contestants as well as took part in a one-day Big Brother-style contest that members of the media took part in.
“We played a full 12-hour day of Big Brother,” she said.
“They were all against me because I was the only Canadian.”
Another special guest was Big Brother 10 winner Dan Gheesling, who hosted the Head of Household competition.
By all accounts, MacLaughlin brought her A game once again and was named HOH.
She hasn’t been asked to do any more assignments for ET Canada, but she’d be open to it.
“It might be nice to get back to L.A. when they get out of the house.
“That was definitely exciting and I’d be open to do more stuff like that.”
MacLaughlin said it’s been fun, albeit a bit strange, to be recognized and live the life of a celebrity. But she is craving a bit of normalcy.
She said she’s only been home about twice since going into the Big Brother house more than four months ago.
“I can’t wait to get back into my routine. I feel like I don’t work out anymore,” said the athletic brunette.
“I gotta hit the gym. It’s stressing me out.”
